Auburndale Mayor Dorothea Taylor Bogert was awarded the 2024 Ridge League of Cities Nettie Draughon Municipal Official of the Year Award at the September Membership Dinner Meeting hosted by Zolfo Springs.  She was presented the award by the 2023 recipient, Haines City Vice Mayor Morris West.  West noted numerous achievements including her years of service to the City of Auburndale, the Ridge League of Cities and Florida League of Cities.

Mayor Taylor Bogert was first elected to the Auburndale City Commission in 2018.  She served one four-year term before running unopposed to her second and current term.  When the Auburndale City Commission chose Taylor Bogert to serve as Mayor in 2022, she became the city’s first female to serve as Mayor.

Dorothea has served the Ridge League of Cities for seven years and held every officer’s position including treasurer, secretary, vice president, president, and immediate past president.  During her term as President of the Ridge League, she became one of the RLC strongest advocates for local government in Tallahassee.  Her passion for advocating for cities led her to serve as one of the first Local Voices United ambassadors.  Mayor Taylor Bogert has served on several Florida League of Cities committees including the FLC Board of Directors since 2022.

The award is named in honor of the late Nettie Draughon from Plant City who served fifty-seven years with the city in numerous positions, and who the city hall in Plant City is named.  The Award was first presented in 1994.
